The only flirts and hotlists that I get are from women about half my age who usually live in another country and looking for their soulmate.

Please don't let me be misunderstood.

In my experience, flirts have been generated by the site without the owner of the profile knowing - think they're part of the ice breaker programme?

They're all from profiles located many miles away and from someone it is so obvious that we would not be a match. So I ignore the lot of them.

The best way to tell if they're bots or scammers is If they all have faces, initiate contact, send messages and even reply.
It's best to just ignore~

I hotlist someone if I was IMing him and want to find him again more easily the next time I'm online.

Anytime that I have tried to contact a woman who had hotlisted me the outcome has been the same as any other attempts at communication through this site. Meaning I might as well as typed it out and then instantly deleted it for all the response that I had gotten.

Well that is not 100% true, I did get an answer from a local woman who stated as a precondition for her continuing communication that I had to say that I had to be seeking a lifetime commitment. It didn't feel like she read my profile.

Not the Whole Truth but the truth that I can see.

I get same thing- most are a few hundred miles away- My profile says with in a certain distance- other wise I dismiss them- usually once I start talking to them I find out that they want more than I'm wanting to give-

I get flirted and hotlisted all the time, however, 95% of them are looking for "the one", "seeking an husbund" (yes, I spelled it the same way they did), or only provide a third party site. The other 5%, are mostly AdultFriendFinder's auto flirt, where the person never does flirt to begin with. The remaining 1%, I flirt back and see if they respond. If I want to let someone know I like their profile, I send a message.

I've never been hotlisted, and the only flirts I get are from women far younger than I, who live hundreds of miles away.

I find it flattering. It's nice that someone thinks enough of you to reach out.

If a person finds me attractive enough to flirt or hot list me I will always try to at least thank them. If I find them attractive besides just thanking them I will try to start a conversation.
